The Holiday program in room one was a great success! Parents had the opportunity to come and watch how their child’s morning goes during circle time which included the flag salute, calendar, play names, art appreciation and a Spaninsh lesson with Mrs. Drummond. After circle time, the children performed some Holiday songs and served their guests ginger snap cookies that they had made the day before. A big thank you goes out to all the families that came to support us!

To go along with the theme of the month ” giving to others” we decided to make a friendship trail mix with all the children in the preschool. Each child had the opportunity to bring in dried fruit, granola or anything else they wanted to contribute. After we acknowledged what each child brought, we poured each ingredient into a big bowl and every child had the chance to mix it all together. After the ingredients were mixed , the children scooped up the trail mix into a baggie to take home! Thanks to all of the parents for their continued love and support!

For the month of November room one and room two children have been learning what it means to be thankful for the people and things that they have in their lives. Among talking about how the pilgrims and the Native Americans met and the meaning of Thanksgiving, we also talked to the children about if you give something you almost always get something back in return. Earlier in the week we read a story called Stone Soup by Jon. J. Muth. It’s about three monks that encounter frightened villagers who lock their doors and windows and darken their homes. The villagers have long been ravenged by harsh times and their hearts have grown hard toward everyone that they meet. But when the monks cleverly entice them to make soup from stones, the villagers discovered how much they have to give and how much more comes back in return.
So in celebration of Thanksgiving we had each child bring in a different vegetable to contribute to our stone soup. Each child had the opportunity to use a plastic knife and help cut potatoes, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower and lots of other yummy vegetables. After the vegetables were chopped, we put them in the pot with the stones, added the broth and cooked it. It was yummy to have with our lunch and the children learned that if we all help out we all get something back in return.

Room 1 children wanted to participate in the annual Carden Academy Pumpkin Contest. We bought a pumpkin with the money we made from our recycled bottles that we’ve been collecting! We then let the children decide what kind of materials to decorate the pumpkin with! They had lots of fun using feathers, pom pom balls, puzzle pieces and confetti! Our pumpkin won for the most colorful pumpkin in the contest! Enjoy!

Frankenstein’s hair has been growing so fast that the room one children decided it was time to give him a hair cut! Each child had the chance to snip off little by little of their Frankenstein’s hair (grass) that they had planted a few weeks before. They had so much fun!
